Cone chest organ of the German Romantic period

A brief history
In 1889, Theodor Kuhn completed an organ with 24 stops for the Zurich Unterstrass Reformist Church. The organ reflected the tradition developed by his father, Johann Nepomuk Kuhn, who had died in the previous year and was the founder of our firm. The organ was dismantled in 1911 and transferred to western Switzerland, where with a slightly changed specification it reliably performed its duties into the year 2001. The front, too, was altered - drastically - and adjusted to its new surroundings.

Restoration 2005 - 2006
The restoration work comprised thorough technical repairs, so that the organ can be considered as good as new, and to function with absolute reliability. The slight changes to the specification that the organ had been subjected to over time were reversed. At that time it was decided not to reconstruct the design of the front.

When restoration was concluded, the organ was officially opened with four workshop concerts, and subsequently carefully stored in our workshops.

Restoration 2016
Now, after almost 10 years, this remarkable organ has woken from its deep slumber. We have carried out an extensive reconstruction to the neo-Gothic front, so that the visual appearance of the organ, too, will be enjoyed in its original beauty. By a very happy chance the Kuhn organ of 1889 has found a new home in the KunstKlang Church "Auf der Egg" in Zurich Wollishofen.
