The «little» sister.......
The design of the case and façade intentionally reflect that of the previously constructed main organ in the nave. In this way the introduction of a further new stylistic element in the cathedral could be avoided. In consideration of the spatial expanse of the new instrument, restraint was called for so as not to compete with the visual effect of the epitaph, which lies opposite, when viewed from the nave.
The manifold uses of the instrument required two electric consoles in addition to the indispensable mechanical console. In this way the organ's various functions are taken into account through being able to play from various positions and, when necessary, at the same time lead a choir or orchestra.

Use of the transept organ is centred around the «small» area of the side aisle and transept. The Great and Pedal organs share a windchest in the superstructure and guarantee, through their raised position, a far reaching projection of the «pleno» sound. The Swell is contained in the substructure of the organ and is therefore in the vicinity of the choir or orchestra, ideal for accompaniment purposes. The instrument can be directly heard and ensemble playing thus facilitated. With the help of its highly effective swell box this manual is capable of taking on an accompanying role at all dynamic levels. The versatile stop-list also enables the Swell to take an appropriate line in trio or cantus firmus settings.
