Important testimony

The Voit organ in the mountain church of Degernau is without a doubt an organ worthy of maintaining as a cultural monument. Fortunately, the pipes and the organ mechanics as a whole have been preserved almost in their entirety.

Due to regular maintenance, the instrument still functioned amazingly well. Nevertheless, wear and tear and pest infestation had taken their toll on the organ's substance.

There were various deficits in the sound of the instrument. Firstly, the tuning and voicing were unbalanced, and secondly, the stops, which had been revoiced in the neo-baroque style, did not really fit in with the organ's otherwise very homogeneous sound structure.

The focus of our work was on the complete overhaul of the organ, the replacement of all parts subject to wear and tear, the thorough repair of all parts damaged by woodworm and the revision of the voicing, with the aim of reversing the changes that had previously been made.

These measures now ensure the preservation of a high-quality instrument – as a monument to the style of organ building typical of the late 19th century and to the high-quality craftsmanship of the builder. Our work also guarantees that the organ will function perfectly in years to come as an essential component of religious life in the mountain church of Degernau.
