Grabeskirche St. Matthias Günhoven
New organ for church with burial facility
The Church of St. Matthias in Mönchengladbach-Günhoven was originally built according to plans drawn up by the Aachen architect, Peter Salm, and was dedicated on 31 August 1952. Over 60 years later, the church was converted by interior designer Willi Theelen to a church with burial facility. Since January 2013 the ashes of the departed have found their resting place here. As a result of the great demand for cremation plots, a decision was reached in 2016 to erect an additional building parallel to the main church. This new Chapel of Our Lady was opened in 2017.
Since the old organ in the Church of St. Matthias was no longer capable of meeting the increased requirements, in 2018 the persons responsible decided to build a new one. Even if the new organ shows only 10 speaking stops, a huge variety of tones is possible. The broad range of foundation stops and the three dual usage sliders all contribute to the outstanding suitability of the organ for the specific requirements of this church with burial facility.
The tonal and technical concept of the new organ is basically founded on our tried and tested small organ that we have developed especially for small churches, chapels and prayer rooms. This basic concept has the advantage of producing an extremely compact appearance and being variously adaptable to each set of circumstances. The plain, light-coloured maple case with the darker pipe shades of cherry wood fits convincingly into the Church of St. Matthias that was converted so carefully.
